Summer Classes }

Creative Movement :
Dedicated to our youngest students, these classes stress motor skills, coordination, spatial and musical awareness. Props are used to teach children the basics of dance by engaging their attention and imagination.

Tots Ballet & Tap :
Ballet positions and technique are introduced as children begin to understand the disciplines of ballet. Props are also used in this class to keep the children stimulated while learning. Rhythm and musicality are introduced in the tap portion of class. Either a tiny tots ballet or tap piece will be performed at the recital. This will be at the discretion of the instructor.

Ballet :
Ballet provides a technical foundation and understanding of dance positions and proper alignment while developing overall coordination and a sense of poise and grace. Classes consist of barre work , center technique, and combinations of both.
All students should consider taking Ballet, as it is the foundation of all dance
.

Pointe :
Twelve-year-old students are permitted to advance to Pointe when proper ballet technique is mastered (at the discretion of the Instructor). Pointe class will consist of barre work and center technique, emphasizing alignment and to execute movements properly on Pointe. NOTE: Students must obtain permission from a physician to ensure their ankles are strong enough and no injuries will occur.

Jazz :
Jazz introduces the student to locomotive movements, isolations, rhythmic phrasing and provides an opportunity for students to develop an understanding of the body's innate way to move. Jazz class consists of a warm-up, center technique, across the floor and center combinations.

Modern :
Students will learn how to use their bodies as in instrument of expression using lines, shapes, and motions through space. Classes emphasize correct body placement, the use of breath and muscular balancing.

Tap :
Tap is the most rhythmic form of dance. Class consists of center work and tap combinations focusing on vocabulary and sequencing.

Lyrical :
Students will interpret the lyrics of a song into a dance to help tell a story. Students will also learn how to use their bodies to express themselves.

Musical Theater :
Is a form of theatre combining music, songs, spoken dialogue and dance. The emotional content of the piece (humor, pathos, love, anger) as well as the story itself, is communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole. This class is designed for the PERFORMER! It is recommended that dancers take ballet or jazz as a second class to help with technique.

Hip Hop :
ATDA Hip Hop classes are too cool. Students will learn Hip Hop moves to the latest music.

Turns and Leaps :
Students will work on their turns and leaps such as: barrel turns, fouette turns, switch leaps, switch sides, and so much more. This class will not be performing in recital and is solely for improving technique.

Stretch and Tone :
This class will work to elongate your muscles and strengthen your center to acheive peak stamina, defined musculature, and overall wellness!

Acro :
Start with forward rolls and progress to back hand springs & back tucks. Stretching, flexibility, tumbling and low beam (for our younger students) will be combined in this class to produce optimum gymnastics skills!
